Cyberpunk 2 May Include Multiplayer

Multiplayer was originally planned as one of the features of Cyberpunk 2077. Before the game’s release, CD Projekt Red said it would be added after launch, but later changed its plans and began work on a standalone multiplayer project. That project was eventually canceled. However, it seems the Polish studio has not completely abandoned the idea.

As reported by CheatHappens, CD Projekt Red is currently looking for a Lead Quest Programmer for its upcoming sequel, currently referred to as Cyberpunk 2. The desired qualifications include knowledge of multiplayer network architecture and synchronizing game state or quests between the client and server.

This requirement suggests that the sequel could include multiplayer features that work in real time. However, the listing does not confirm what form multiplayer might take or whether it will be part of the final game.

This is not the first such hint. In April, other CD Projekt Red job listings also mentioned multiplayer and online features. The repeated requests for experience in this area increase the likelihood that the studio is indeed planning to include multiplayer.

Cyberpunk 2077 has changed significantly since its troubled launch and has gradually rehabilitated its reputation through updates. However, multiplayer remained one of the originally announced features that never made it into the game. The sequel could therefore give CD Projekt Red a chance to finally follow through on that old plan.
