Microsoft Makes the Xbox PC App Up to 60% Faster and Unifies Its Interface Across Devices

Microsoft announced major updates to the Xbox PC app, its web interface, and cloud gaming on TVs and VR headsets. The goal is to speed up loading, simplify navigation, and unify the user experience across devices. Xbox Insiders can try the first updates starting today, as can users on the Play  XBOX website.

The biggest changes are coming to the Xbox app on Windows, which launches up to 60% faster, according to Microsoft’s internal tests. Pages such as Home, Store, and Game Pass load up to 50% faster, while opening windows in the app is up to 65% faster. Actual results may vary depending on hardware and system configuration.

Along with performance improvements, Microsoft has redesigned the user interface. The game library now has simpler navigation, new filters, and options for organizing titles. Friends and social features are now part of the main navigation, making it quicker for players to open conversations, check their friends’ activity, or join groups. Improved search can find games—including installed titles and add-ons—as well as users, all in one place. Game cards, the home screen, settings, and animations have also been updated.

Changes are also coming to the web version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, which Microsoft began testing earlier this year. The new experience will automatically become available to more players over the coming weeks. A dedicated Library tab will bring together games available through the cloud, whether players own them or have access through Game Pass. The library can be sorted by genre, recently played titles, or supported control method.

The web interface will also make better use of space on large monitors and offer light and dark modes. Five new high-contrast color settings will improve accessibility.

Microsoft is gradually bringing the new design and navigation to Xbox Cloud Gaming apps on supported smart TVs and VR headsets as well. Although the interface will be tailored to each type of screen, the basic controls, game search, and access to the library should be similar across all devices.

For now, the changes are rolling out gradually, with the updated PC app initially available to Xbox Insiders. Microsoft plans to make further updates based on player feedback.
