After years away, EA is revisiting part of its back catalog and bringing 25 classic games to modern PCs. The lineup includes several entries in the Ultima and Wing Commander series, as well as Road Rash, Crusader, and Theme Hospital. The games are available on Steam and GOG as part of the Restored Classic Sale.
Seven titles have received more extensive updates. The developers focused on ensuring they run smoothly on modern PCs and incorporated community fixes and popular mods into the official releases. So these are more than just the original versions being listed again in digital storefronts.
The games are as follows:
Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition
Wing Commander: 35th Anniversary Edition
Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi: 35th Anniversary Edition
Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition
Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition
Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition
Wing Commander: Privateer
Wing Commander: Academy
Wing Commander: Armada
Strike Commander
Crusader: No Remorse
Crusader: No Regret
Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness
Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress
Ultima III: Exodus
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny
Ultima VI: The False Prophet
Ultima VII: The Complete Edition
Ultima VIII: Gold Edition
Ultima IX: Ascension
Ultima Underworld I
Ultima Underworld II
Theme Hospital
Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition
All the games are 50 percent off until November 19. Games in the Ultima and Wing Commander series are also available in bundles at 55 percent off.
It’s a welcome change after years of criticism that EA has left its older franchises dormant. However, this is only part of its extensive catalog, and the move is unlikely to change the mood among fans who have recently criticized the company over BioWare and the future of the Mass Effect series.
