Mass Effect Gets New N7 Merch Just Weeks After BioWare’s Closure
The official BioWare store has unveiled a new collection of collectibles for this year’s N7 Day.
The timing of this year’s collection for the traditional N7 Day is, to say the least, unusual. The official BioWare store has unveiled new clothing and collectibles from the Mass Effect universe, including a light-up helmet modeled after Commander Shepard’s. It comes shortly after EA announced the closure of the legendary BioWare studio and the cancellation of another game in the series.
The standout item is the N7 Wearable LED Helmet, a replica inspired by Shepard’s gear in Mass Effect 3. It is assembled and painted by hand, and its visor features LED lighting that can be switched between Paragon blue and Renegade red. It costs $174.99 in the official store. However, this is not an entirely new collectible: the same helmet was already on sale in 2021 and is now returning as part of a new pre-order offering.
The collection also includes new T-shirts, a hoodie, an N7 cap, sneakers, pins, and other accessories. Fans can also buy figures from Dark Horse and the board game Mass Effect: The Board Game – Priority Hagalaz. The store has also brought back several older collectibles and is offering discounts on selected products.
The whole situation feels somewhat bitter, especially since BioWare officially announced on October 21 that the studio was closing after more than 30 years. EA also confirmed that early development on the next Mass Effect game had been halted.
It is clear that preparations for this year’s collection and its production began before the studio’s closure was announced. Physical products such as hand-finished replicas and clothing require a longer lead time. However, no exact production schedule has been made public, and the store is operated by DPI Merch, so it is unclear how much BioWare or EA was directly involved in the campaign.
Fans still have the traditional opportunity to celebrate their favorite sci-fi series, but this time it comes as its original creators no longer have their own studio and another game has been canceled.
