Netflix already delivered the promised preview yesterday, showing a very nice 26 minutes of gameplay captured on the base PS5 console. At 3 a.m., Rockstar itself also uploaded a higher-quality version to YouTube, so you can now watch GTA VI in high resolution.
Plus, besides the online videos, you can also download the full-quality video (14GB) directly from Rockstar.
Options and activities
- car racing on a circuit as well as underground street races
- motorcycle races on a muddy track
- mini-golf
- kayaking
- diving
- basketball
- shooting practice
- parachute jumps
- visiting the zoo and exploring animals
- working out
- shopping and visits to barbershops or salons
- store robberies and other small-scale heists
- Jason will also try working as a security guard in the story
- you’ll be able to watch TV
Character and progression
- exercise and diet will affect the character’s muscles and weight, similar to GTA: San Andreas
- Jason’s and Lucia’s appearance can also show lack of sleep, partying, or overall lifestyle
- individual skills and attributes will improve by doing specific activities
- for example, during basketball you could already see the Focus attribute increasing
- Focus will also be usable for shooting and slowing down time
Jason and Lucia
- you’ll be able to switch between Jason and Lucia in the open world
- the two can operate together or completely independently in different parts of the map
- while playing as one character, you’ll be able to call the other and have them come to you
- together they’ll be able to do activities or commit crimes even outside story missions
- switching between them will be possible even when they’re right next to each other, or for example sitting in the same car
- some story sections may limit character switching, however
Jason and Lucia’s relationship
- the romantic side of their relationship won’t be completely set in stone, and the player will be able to actively develop it
- the relationship will strengthen by spending time together outside missions
- shopping, visiting salons, shared activities, or heists can help
- even smaller decisions may have consequences
- for example, ignoring messages from the other character can negatively affect their relationship
Missions
- Jason and Lucia can carry out different tasks simultaneously during a single mission
- one can go in guns blazing while the other proceeds stealthily
- the game will thus leverage the different skills and positions of both protagonists
- during chases, one character can drive while the other shoots
- some missions will physically separate the duo, for example onto different floors of a building
- shootouts, stealth, driving, and joint planning of operations are said to be combined more strongly
Phone and social networks
- the phone will no longer be just a classic menu popped up in the corner of the screen
- Jason or Lucia will physically pull it out of their pocket and the camera will zoom in on the phone in their hand
- the mobile is therefore a real object in the game world, not just a HUD element
- the presentation resembles the detailed item animations from Red Dead Redemption 2
- via the phone, you’ll be able to use a social network with a fully scrollable feed
- characters and events from the game world can appear on the social network and go viral
- the phone will also be used for communication between Jason and Lucia
NPCs and a living world
- NPCs will react more strongly to the player’s behavior
- for example, openly carrying a large weapon on the street can trigger a reaction even before the player fires
- pedestrians will have far greater variation in height, age, body proportions, clothing, and other details
- different neighborhoods and areas of Leonida will have their own resident types, fashion, and culture
- the world will include a lot of animals
- animal exploration is meant to resemble systems from Red Dead Redemption 2
- the city will have many interactive interiors, shops, bars, clubs, and other venues
Crime and police
- police will work with information about the suspect and their vehicle, but will also get your location via cameras, based on clothing, face, weapon, or even the fact that you’re a duo
- car theft will no longer always be just a simple press of a single button; carjacking is reworked, and different situations may play out differently
- store robberies will be one of the free-form criminal activities
- Jason and Lucia will be able to pull off heists together even outside the main missions
- the police system will be more complex than just the classic star system
- a Criminal Profile system appears, which is supposed to affect how the player is hunted
Technical side
- the entire Extended Look preview was captured on the base PS5, and even there the game shows very high draw distance
- the map is 2x bigger than in GTA V
- Vice City has significantly denser streets and lots of objects as well as NPCs
- the minimap has 3D buildings
- interiors contain a large number of small items and physical details
- during shootouts, more extensive environmental destruction is visible, flying glass, and moving furniture
- streamers confirmed the game ran at 30 fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X
- There are over 600,000 animations in the game. GTA V had 55,000 and RDR2 300,000.
Actors
- Steven Ogg will return as Trevor Philips
Also an interesting note: the UI menu itself is minimal and things are drawn. Only the currently necessary elements are displayed on screen at any time.
According to Rockstar, the game length is around 80 hours if you complete the main story and a few side missions.
