Destructive Creations, the creators of Hatred, Ancestors Legacy, and 63 Days, brought their upcoming FPS Nailcrown to Gamescom. The game received a new gameplay trailer during the Future Games Show and was also available to play at the event. It is being published by Bohemia Interactive and takes inspiration from classic fast-paced FPS games in the spirit of the original Doom.
Nailcrown will take players into a dark fantasy world filled with ghouls, minotaurs, trolls, and other monsters. Combat combines firearms with melee combat. The arsenal will include a nailgun, shotgun, electric Impaler, machine gun, gatling gun, grenade launcher, sword, and warhammer. Alongside eliminating enemies, players will search levels, look for keys, discover secret areas, and solve simpler puzzles.
A major part of the game is its dynamic gore system. Enemies can have their arms and legs severed at multiple points or be decapitated. Losing a limb does not automatically mean death, however, and opponents can continue attacking. Armored enemies also feature small weak spots, for example around the knees or armpits, or their armor can simply be blasted apart with a more powerful weapon.
The game also features an interesting system involving gunpowder. It is a separate limited resource in addition to ammunition. If the player enters water and gets the gunpowder wet, firearms will stop working. In flooded levels, players will therefore need to consider their route and decide whether taking a shortcut through the water is worth it.
In addition to single-player, Nailcrown will support online and LAN co-op, as well as PvP multiplayer with Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. The character and weapons can be upgraded over time, and the story will place the player in the service of a necromancer whose true plans will gradually be revealed.
The game has so far been confirmed for PC in 2027. In the meantime, you can add it to your Steam wishlist.
