Blizzard has prepared a huge surprise for Warcraft 3: Reforged fans. The criticized remaster of the legendary strategy game is getting a major update today, which, alongside technical improvements, also adds a brand-new campaign called Forsaken Kingdom. And it returns to one of the most famous moments in Warcraft history.
Forsaken Kingdom takes place during and after the fall of Lordaeron and puts Arthas and Sylvanas at the center of the story. Players will visit familiar locations and encounter factions such as the Forsaken and the Scarlet Crusade, while the campaign will also include the Undercity and Naxxramas.
The new campaign is set to offer more than 30 hours of gameplay and will introduce a new neutral hero in the form of the Forsaken Paladin. Blizzard has also improved the World Editor and is adding further gameplay and feature changes.
Reforged itself will also receive a significant graphical upgrade. The update with new graphical elements and further changes will be free for all players. Forsaken Kingdom, however, will be paid content that can be purchased separately or as part of a bundle.
The announcement is all the more surprising because Warcraft 3: Reforged was released in 2020 as a complete remake of the original Warcraft 3, but its launch was accompanied by a wave of criticism. The game had numerous bugs at release, was missing some features from the original version, and several changes angered longtime fans. Although Blizzard later fixed some of the problems, it seemed that Reforged would simply be left to fade away.
Instead, it is receiving one of the biggest updates in its history today, along with a brand-new chapter of the story. Forsaken Kingdom is available starting today.
