Stephen Root Officially Confirms His Role in GTA VI

Actor Stephen Root has confirmed his involvement in GTA VI. During an event ahead of the Emmy Awards, he was asked about Rockstar’s highly anticipated game, and without much hesitation, the actor admitted that he was glad to be part of it.

Although Root did not directly say whom he is portraying in the game, it is almost certainly Brian Heder. Fans have linked him to the character since it was first revealed, primarily based on his highly distinctive voice. Until now, however, it had only been speculation, and the actor himself had not confirmed his involvement. As recently as early September, Root was among the actors whose casting remained officially unconfirmed.

Brian Heder is a veteran of the smuggling scene in Leonida Keys, who now leaves most of the dirty work to others. He runs a boatyard and allows Jason to live in one of his properties in exchange for help with local affairs and his business dealings.

Root’s statement immediately raised questions about whether he had breached his NDA, as Rockstar traditionally guards information about its games very closely and has not yet revealed GTA VI’s full cast. However, we still do not know when the NDA expires or whether he was allowed to say it.

In any case, this is one of the first direct confirmations from an actor that he is actually appearing in GTA VI. Stephen Root is known, for example, from the series Barry and Severance, the film Office Space, and as the voice of Buck Strickland in the animated series King of the Hill.
