Interest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to grow following the release of the Remastered update. Players are returning to one of the most successful RPGs of the past decade, while more newcomers are also setting out into the world of Geralt of Rivia for the first time.
The game set a new record on Steam on Sunday, October 4. According to SteamDB, 137,724 players were in the game at the same time at 17:00 local time. That’s nearly 20,000 more than the previous peak of 120,000 players, which The Witcher 3 reached shortly after the Remastered version was released.
The original game reached around 92,000 concurrent players on Steam when it launched in 2015. Another significant spike came in January 2020, when the popularity of Netflix’s The Witcher series helped the game reach 103,000 players.
Steam figures also exclude consoles. The total number of players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch is therefore much higher, although CD Projekt RED has not disclosed exact figures.
Data from analytics firm Alinea Analytics offers some indication. Last week, its analyst Rhys Elliott said that the day after the Remastered update’s release, The Witcher 3 reached 2.4 million daily active users across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Nintendo Switch was not included in that figure.
Elliott also pointed to another notable result. The Witcher 3 reportedly sold around 130,000 copies across those three platforms on September 30, its best single-day sales since summer 2024, when the game received its first major Steam discount, dropping to €3.99. It currently sells for €24.99 on the platforms tracked.
According to the analyst, this brought The Witcher 3’s lifetime sales to more than 66 million copies. For CD Projekt RED, it’s further evidence that its fantasy RPG still has a strong ability to attract both new and returning players more than ten years after its original release.
The Remastered update was not a new standalone game. It’s a major free upgrade to the existing version, bringing modernized visuals, including new textures, improved animations, and changes to the abilities system and skill tree.
