Microsoft unveils Xbox Nano Controller, a pocket-sized gamepad

Microsoft is expanding its accessories lineup with the new Xbox Nano Controller. It is the brand’s smallest controller to date, aimed primarily at younger players, people with smaller hands and anyone looking for a compact gamepad for travel. It goes on sale in November and will also be available in Slovakia.

Xbox Nano Controller is just over 5 inches long, or approximately 12.7 centimetres, and weighs 99 grams. Microsoft notes that it is shorter and lighter than most smartphones today.

Despite its significantly smaller size, the controller retains all 18 standard gaming inputs and the classic layout found on regular Xbox controllers. Microsoft also sees it as a suitable accessory for local multiplayer gaming, for example in Minecraft Dungeons II.

A small controller for gaming on the go

The Nano Controller’s compact size is one of its main advantages. It can fit more easily into a bag or backpack, and Microsoft presents it as a practical option for travel, visits or gaming outside the living room.

It features a built-in rechargeable battery and a programmable Action Button. This can be assigned functions such as taking a screenshot, recording gameplay or other frequently used features.

It connects via Xbox Wireless or Bluetooth, so it can be used with a range of compatible devices.

The Xbox Nano Controller has been available to pre-order since October 14 for $49.99 / EUR. It goes on sale in November 2026 in more than 30 countries, including Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The local price may vary by market.

Microsoft is also preparing special offers in partnership with Samsung and Meta. In the US, new users who buy selected Samsung TVs or Meta Quest headsets will receive an Xbox Nano Controller and a two-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

For Samsung TVs, Microsoft also plans to use the controller as a simple way to access cloud gaming through the Xbox app integrated into Samsung Gaming Hub.
