Microsoft Reveals Surface Laptop Ultra Pricing, With NVIDIA RTX Spark and 128GB of RAM
The top configuration with 128GB of unified memory can run local AI models with more than 120 billion parameters.
Microsoft has revealed the final configurations and pricing for its high-performance Surface Laptop Ultra, which it first unveiled in May. Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, the new laptop uses the RTX Spark chip, which combines an Arm-based processor with NVIDIA Blackwell graphics. It is aimed primarily at professionals, developers, and content creators, with a strong focus on local AI processing.
RTX Spark features an NVIDIA Grace processor with 18 or 20 cores and Blackwell graphics with 5,120 or 6,144 cores. The top configuration has up to 128GB of unified memory shared by the CPU and GPU. This allows it to run AI models with more than 120 billion parameters locally. Microsoft lists a maximum theoretical performance of up to 1 petaflop for AI workloads.
The laptop has a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen with peak HDR brightness of 2,000 nits, a new cooling system, and a wide range of ports. It also features USB-C Magnetic Connect magnetic charging. Microsoft is also expanding Windows 11 support for local AI models and agents, which will be able to work with files and apps using new security mechanisms.
Prices range from $2,599.99 for the 24GB version to $5,899.99 for the 128GB version.
Microsoft also unveiled the compact Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, which offers the same platform with 128GB of memory and is designed for developing and testing large AI models. It starts at $5,999, with shipments scheduled for November.
The Surface Laptop Ultra is entering direct competition with Apple's professional MacBook Pro models. However, it is a premium device, with the top configuration priced close to $6,000.
