Sony Unveils AI Upscaling for PS510/2/2026
The more power-efficient QSSR technology uses a modified neural network and is currently available in Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei.

Sony is bringing AI upscaling to the base PS5. The new feature is called Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), a more power-efficient version of the PSSR technology Sony uses on PS5 Pro.
PSSR uses a neural network to analyze an image and reconstruct it at a higher resolution, with a focus on sharper details and greater image stability. However, its demands were too high for the base PS5. QSSR therefore uses a simpler neural network architecture and a specially optimized implementation designed specifically for PS5 hardware.
The technology was developed as part of Project Amethyst, Sony and AMD's collaboration on AI graphics. Sony emphasizes that PSSR remains the higher-quality solution designed for PS5 Pro, while QSSR is intended to deliver noticeably better detail and temporal stability on the standard PS5 compared with existing upscaling methods.
Two games are the first to receive support:
Both games are receiving an update that adds QSSR as another graphics option on PS5.
Insomniac highlights sharper pixels and greater environmental stability, which should be noticeable in places such as the streets of Madripoor and Shinjuku. According to the studio, QSSR brings some of the visual benefits of PS5 Pro to players on the base PS5.
Sucker Punch, meanwhile, highlights QSSR's ability to better reconstruct fine details in characters and environments. It is also intended to offer greater image stability in motion, something the studio says was previously unattainable on the base PS5.
Sony has yet to announce a complete list of other games that will support QSSR, but expects more developers to adopt the technology over time.
