Gamescom 2026: How Does 007 First Light Play on Switch 2?

At Gamescom, we got a detailed look at several upcoming games for Switch 2. Naturally, the focus was mainly on exclusive titles, particularly the upcoming compilation Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, but when I got my hands on the controllers in the presentation room, I switched to the console’s menu to see what other demos were available. I immediately knew I wanted to spend some time with something else as well. Switch 2 can also handle major third-party games, and I was curious to see how it would cope with the successful, high-quality Bond game 007 First Light. It does not have a release date on Switch 2 yet, but judging by the quality of this port, its release should not be far off.

You can watch a short gameplay montage in the video below. Due to exhibition rules, it is not direct gameplay, but a screen recording of my playthrough. Even so, it should give you a good idea of how the game looks on Nintendo’s hybrid console. And it does not look bad at all. Using a pair of Joy-Con controllers did not feel ideal to me, as I prefer playing this kind of game with a traditional gamepad, but it works. I had the chance to play through about the first 10 minutes—the intense opening, which showcased the controllers’ HD Rumble 2 capabilities particularly well, conveying the rain, waves, and storm directly into your hands.

It did not look bad graphically either, as you can hopefully judge from the video. I was genuinely surprised by how many effects had been retained while maintaining very good graphical settings and smooth performance. We will see how the later open areas with numerous NPCs perform, as they are more demanding. Unfortunately, I was unable to play any further not only because of the lack of time, but also due to an unpleasant bug that prevented me from continuing later in the game.
