DLSS5 Autopilot Boosts DLSS5 Performance in Modded Games9/8/2026
A user-created feature modifies DLSS5 so that it is not applied at the final image resolution.

NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering is officially available only in NBA 2K27 for now, but modders are already experimenting with adding the technology to games without native support. Early experiments have also revealed one of DLSS 5’s main problems. In its current form, Neural Rendering is very demanding, and simply adding it to a game can cause the framerate to drop significantly.
The DLSS 5 Autopilot project is now attempting to address this issue by adding modes similar to those of classic DLSS Super Resolution: Quality, Balanced and Performance. The key difference lies in the order in which the image is processed. With regular DLSS 5, Neural Rendering is applied only at the final resolution, so lowering the game’s internal resolution does not help much. Autopilot, however, runs Neural Rendering before upscaling, meaning the neural network processes fewer pixels.
The result can be significantly higher performance, albeit at the cost of lower image quality. It is a similar compromise to the one players know from the individual DLSS Super Resolution modes. This kind of system could be particularly important when adding DLSS 5 to games unofficially, as the original implementation can be extremely demanding.
The project also includes the DLSS5-Feeder tool, which attempts to activate Neural Rendering in virtually any game using DirectX 10, 11 or 12, including titles without any DLSS support. The results depend on the specific game, however. Based on experience so far, DLSS 5 requires developer involvement and properly prepared data, so some games may look significantly worse or visually unconvincing when it is enabled universally.
Autopilot also allows RTX40MFG-Unlock to activate Multi-Frame Generation on GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards. This works only in games that already support Multi-Frame Generation, however.
DLSS5 is becoming popular mainly among graphics enthusiasts, although Nvidia still has work to do on performance. For now, at least, this feature helps improve performance in modded games.
